Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth which are situated at the back corners of your mouth. They are the third molars in each of the four quadrants of the human dentition. Wisdom teeth generally grow between the ages of 17 and 25 and are technically referred to as vestigial third molars. It is believed that ancestral jaws were longer and so could accommodate more teeth.
Wisdom teeth are usually removed because they could cause tooth impaction and are usually sites for infection, for example, pericoronitis- which is an inflammation of the tissue that surrounds a wisdom tooth that did not erupt completely (95% of cases occur in lower wisdom teeth). Another reason why your wisdom teeth removal should be done for that you most likely do not have enough room. If you do not remove your wisdom teeth in this situation, it can cause problems for you, including dental caries and decay.
